Role of Financial Advisors

Why do we advocate that you consider hiring a financial advisor?  It is essential to have a trusted advisor to guide you through the labyrinth that is personal finance. It is their responsibility to ensure that all facets of your financial life are considered and tuned to provide you with the security you deserve to pursue your life's goals.

Choosing the Right Advisor

Whether or not you choose to work with us, we hope you understand the importance of choosing the right financial advisor to help you write your story. The right person will have the education, credentials, certifications, and fiduciary responsibility to navigate today's world of personal finance.

Intangible Qualities

When selecting an advisor, in addition to holding the right mix of credentials (discussed below), it is also crucial that you choose to work with someone who is a good "fit" for you. Make sure that your advisor is willing to work within your investment style; that he or she will respect your level of risk tolerance. It is equally important that you feel comfortable with your advisor on a personal level. He or she will be working closely within one of the most personal areas of your life, therefore it is critical that you feel at ease confiding in and opening up to them.

We strongly encourage you to consider hiring an independent CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. Although anyone can hang a shingle calling themselves a "financial planner," only those who are certified by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. may use and display the CFP® mark. CFP® certificants have fulfilled significant educational requirements, and have passed a comprehensive 10-hour (2-day) examination.

Furthermore, CFP® practitioners must have at least 3 years of professional planning experience under their belt. They have also successfully passed a background check performed by the CFP Board, and agreed to abide by the Board's strong Code of Ethics.

Chartered Financial Consultant®

A Chartered Financial Consultant® certification adds an additional layer of training, education, and work experience. ChFC® certification holds rigorous academic and continuing education standards, and has extensive professional experience requirements. Additionally, ChFC® professionals are held to a very high standard of ethics. The ChFC® certification is granted by the Certification Committee of the Board of Trustees of The American College.
